Righteous Anger

Righteous Anger

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

Today’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ righteous anger to those
who are using His Father’s house into a marketplace.

Righteous anger and the necessary actions that follow from it are
not in any way sinful. We hear “Making a whip of cords, he drove
all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He
also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned
their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, ‘take these
things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a
marketplace!’”

We too can experience ‘righteous anger’ when we see and hear
injustice – this is often directed at our poor and innocent brothers
and sisters. At times we need to find our ‘righteous anger’ within
us so that we can speak and stand up for those who are unable to
do so. As a result of doing this, also brings up the possibility that
others will retaliate against us. But we should not be afraid; we
have the Lord on our side.

Blessings,
