Mothers Day

Mothers Day Reflection

已發佈 : May-14-2021

Dear brothers and sisters Christ,

“You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear
fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in
my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.”
These words above conclude this weekend’s Gospel. They ring true to me,
because 29 years ago (i.e. May 9th, 1992), along with 8 other men, I was ordained a priest. God choose me to be a priest and I thank God that not only did
he choose me, but that I was able to respond to that “call”.

These words above also ring true to this weekend’s special focus on Mother’s
day. We did not choose our mothers, and we can also say that our mothers did
not choose us. God chose the mothers we would have and visa-versa, God
chose the children we would have.

I believe with all my heart that God does not make mistakes when he assigns us
our mothers and us as their children. It is up to us as mothers and children to
see the beauty of God’s decision. We need to ask ourselves if we have done our
best, our very best, to be the mother’s we are called to be to our children. And
again visa-versa, have we done our best, our very best, to be the children we are
called to be to our mothers? We can only do our part and pray that the other can
do theirs. But if both mother and child have done their very best to live up to the
calling of God in this relationship of love, then we can see the true image of
God’s relationship with us.

To all our mothers who are still alive and in our midst, we your children wish you
a very happy ‘Mother’s Day’. To our mothers who passed away, we your
children pray for you and hope to meet you one day at the gates of heaven
where we will be able to live as brothers and sisters forever in the presence of
our Father in heaven, and his Son Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Happy Easter!
